In a new strategy to discredit special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russian probe, pro-Trump people are claiming that the jury in the case has too many black people. Because they’re grasping at straws, Trump supporters think the federal grand jury has too many black people on it, although it is proportioned to the demographics of Washington, D.C.
A Trump associate who “recently testified” turned to the New York Post to complain that the members of Mueller’s grand jury looked like they arrived straight from a Black Lives Matter protest.
“The grand jury room looks like a Bernie Sanders rally,” the witness told Page Six. “Maybe they found these jurors in central casting, or at a Black Lives Matter rally in Berkeley.”
The racist complainant argued that since 11 of the 20 grand jurors were African-Americans, and therefore, the court system was rigged against him. But this figure is in line with the number of black people residing in Washington, D.C. Instead, the complaint seems to be a last-ditch effort to say something that will discredit Mueller.
The witness who is a white male complied that the only other “white male in the room… was a prosecutor.”
Although the real story is that Robert Mueller’s investigation has gathered enough evidence to get a witness before a grand jury, Page Six decided to run with the pro-Trump witness’s complaint about “reverse racism.”
To assume that black people would inherently be against this person goes to show that the true racism lies within witness and Trump’s people. If they were acting fairly to all people, black people would not automatically be against them.
Because Page Six ran with the reverse racism story, conservative media outlets jumped at the opportunity to expand the nonstory.
For example, Gateway Pundit wrote about how Page Six’s report showed that the federal grand jury was biased “and full of liberal hacks who most likely hate President Trump” and indicated that this was a way to “pass the time for the unconstitutional witch hunt to be shut down.”
If you look at the numbers, Washington D.C. voters are not Trump fans regardless of their race. During the 2016 presidential race, Trump received just 4.1 percent of votes from people in the District of Columbia while Hillary Clinton got 90.9 percent of the votes.
Hardly any Trump supporters live in Washington, D.C. Yet Page Six reported that the federal grand jury “doesn’t appear to include any supporters of President Donald Trump.” But this observation is simply an assumption made to make the public doubt Mueller’s investigation.
The witness continued to complain about how it did not seem to be “a room where POTUS gets a fair shake.”
But that is hardly the point of a grand jury. These are put in place to make sure prosecutors have enough evidence to proceed with legal action. Federal grand juries do not exist to cast blame on anyone.
As the Russian probe gets closer to Trump and his family, the conservative media is working overtime to discredit Mueller.
What do you think about this grand jury pool?
