Stephen Colbert Buys Time Square Billboard To Utterly Embarrass Donald Trump

Updated January 12, 2018

After Donald Trump announced his fake news awards via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday, Stephen Colbert decided to step up to the challenge and try to win one of the awards. The “Late Night” host turned the tide on Trump and started clamoring to get his hands on one of Trump’s fake news awards. Not only did Colbert tweeted, “Tonight! My desperate bid to get Trump’s disapproval! #TheFakies,” he also bought a “For your consideration” billboard in Times Square that millions of people would potentially see.

After Trump haphazardly threatened nuclear war with North Korea and engaged in a “whose is bigger” contest with Kim Jong Un, Trump announced his intention to hand out fake news awards to the best reporters in the country.

Minutes after putting people on the west coast in jeopardy with a nuclear attack by North Korea, Trump tweeted:

“I will be announcing THE MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR on Monday at 5:00 o’clock. Subjects will cover Dishonesty & Bad Reporting in various categories from the Fake News Media. Stay tuned!”

Colbert knew that this was an opportunity he could not afford to miss. He said:

“Nothing gives you more credibility than Donald Trump calling you a liar.”

As fast as he could, Colbert purchased a “For Your Consideration” ad and shared it on a Times Square billboard in the heart of Manhattan.

The ad was very comprehensive and encourages Trump to consider Colbert for The Fakies.

“Dear Mr. President, For your consideration for the most dishonest & corrupt media awards of the year.”

Colbert goes on to say he should be considered “in all categories including:”

“Outstanding achievement in patriotic George Soros talking points,” “best sound mixing,” “best Chex mixing,” “Least Breitbarty,” “The Eric Trump Memorial Award for Disappointment,” “Fakest Dishonesty,” “Corruptest fakeness,” “Dishonestest corruption,” “Smallest button.”

Just hours after Trump tweeted the announcement for The Fakies, Colbert replied via tweet:

“So excited for Monday’s “MOST DISHONEST & CORRUPT MEDIA AWARDS OF THE YEAR!” See you on the red carpet, @AndersonCooper! #TheFakies”

Colbert hopes that this ad makes sure he does not get “snubbed” during Trump’s most prestigious award ceremony of his career.

But Colbert was not the only courageous comedian to participate in Trump’s ludicrous and mentally-unstable awards.

Trevor Noah from The Daily Show also shared his “For your consideration” ad online. His included quotes from some of the conservative media’s greatest liars and cheats to highlight how “dishonest” and “corrupt” he is.

The following were some comments shared in the ad.

“Political propaganda disguised as entertainment,” Brietbart News, 7/20/16.

“Isn’t The Daily Show a fake news show?” Fox & Friends, 4/30/17.

“Trevor Noah is an anti-Trump hack,” TheRebelMEdia, 3/19/17.

“Monotonous… liberal dogma,” The New York Post, 4/5/17.

“When you, @TrevorNoah learn what it means to be an American then you’ll have a say until then enjoy our $ and shut your pie-hole!” Scott Baio, 2/14/17.

Samantha Bee also shared her intention to become awarded for the “shrillest reporting.”

Who do you think should win Trump’s awards that cost your taxpayer dollars?
