ICE Deported A Doctor Living In America For 40 Years For A Mistake He Made 25-Years Ago

President Trump has targeted immigrants from the beginning of his political career. When he stood in front of his hotel and declared his intention to run for the presidency, he called Mexicans rapists and vowed to put a stop to illegal immigration. Not only has Trump promised to build a see-through border wall and get Mexico to pay for it (which he already gave up on), he has had his Immigration and Customs Enforcement bureau (ICE) crack down hard on immigrants. Border patrol officers have been caught kicking water over to deprive migrants on their travels across the Arizona desert.

And now Trump has encouraged his ICE agents to abuse their power and initiate deportations.

NBC’s affiliate station in Michigan, WOOD-TV reported that ICE had committed one of its most heinous acts to date.

The highly respected Dr. Lukasz Niec, who has practiced internal medicine in Kalamazoo for years and worked at the Bronson Methodist Hospital, had become a target of Trump’s ICE agents when they learned he was an immigrant.

When Dr. Niec was just five years old, his family brought him to the United States from his native country of Poland. He grew up in the United States, is proud of the country, and has been a permanent resident and green card holder for four decades.

Trump wanted him gone.

Now ICE is holding Dr. Niec in a detention center as they wait for the hammer to fall on him. They want to kick him out of America and send him back to Poland, a country he has never lived in and doesn’t call home. He does not even know any family over there or speak the language. Nevertheless, Trump’s ICE agents want him deported out of America.

Not only was Dr. Niec a victim of Trump’s anti-immigration witch-hunt, but ICE also threw him into custody while he was home with his family. While spending time at home with his preteen daughters, three ICE agents appeared and took him away in handcuffs. The good doctor does not understand why he has become Trump’s latest target after being in America for four decades and has legal status as a resident.

The other doctors he works with look up to Dr. Niec as an admiral physician.

“He’s been, just completely the model physician that you want a physician to be,” Dr. Hussein Akl said. Dr. Akl is Dr. Niec’s colleague at Bronson Internal Medicine.

Another colleague, Dr. Michael Raphelson, a palliative medicine specialist, said: “The only danger I can see him on is when he’s swinging his golf club. He’s exactly the kind of person our immigration policies should be encouraging to prosper here. He’s been here for 40 years. This is a ridiculous situation.”

Although Dr. Niec is a pillar of the society now, he did have two minor infractions when he was 17-years old. He received stolen goods and destroyed property worth fewer than $100. He pleaded guilty to these 25-years ago as part of a plea deal. But he was just an irresponsible teenager. Apparently, Trump should look at his record as a doctor first. Instead, ICE ignored the plea deal and used it against him.
